Trail closures and reroutes

Below are the re-routes compared to what is published in the latest (8th) edition of the Guidebook.

Edition 8 of the Guidebook was published late in 2022. However, the development of and the maintenance of a footpath by a volunteer organization is always a work in progress and changes to the trails may happen after the publication date. If you notice errors, or omissions in the guidebook, please notify us at info@gvta.on.ca.

Please Be Aware

The Elora Gorge Conservation Area is CLOSED from October 16 to April 30. Entering the area off-season and after-hours is prohibited. The park is open from May 1 to October 15, from 8 am to 9 pm.  

Carolinian Crest Section

Maps 6 & 7, km 27.6 to 31.7
Approximate location: (43.098789, -80.243266) to (43.106145, -80.266327)

After the County Rd 18 bridge over the Grand, the trail follows Newport Rd. Past the

intersection with Cockshutt Rd, the road turns into Tutela Heights. The trail now follows Tutela

Heights for about 700 m, then the closed section of the road for about 900 m. After that the

trail continues on the open section of Tutela Heights to the Bell Homestead.

Map 7, km 52.0

The westward trail was following a very steep embankment, which the reroute now avoids before reconnecting to the 403 Underpass Side Trail.

Black Walnut Section

Map 9, km 6.6

The trail has been moved westward further away from a private residence to the edge of the

field, before entering the Dryden Tract.

Map 9, km 14.1

Approximate location: (43.351367, -80.416990) to (43.352388, -80.417293)

West of the 401, the trail now follows Roseville Rd and Kings Rd instead of cutting through

the ditch and the road embankment.

Map 11, km 48.2 to 50.5

Approximate location: (43.505364, -80.460489) to (43.511514, -80.463268)

In Bloomingdale, Alternate Route on Sawmill Rd is now permanent, the section running on

Snyder’s Flats Rd is closed.

Map 12, approximately km 63.4

Approximate location: (43.599456, -80.468340) to (43.600384, -80.467816)

The trail has been slightly rerouted through the forest at the request of the landowner.

Middlebrook Side Trail is now part of the main trail. The trail moves to Middlebrook Road from

before Balsam Grove Road to the former Middlebrook Side Trail.
